We borrowed a fuel scrubbing system and spent most of the day filtering the 40 gallons of diesel left in the 80 gallon tank. It was not as dirty as expected considering the time sitting. Biocide had been added to fuel before. Curt recommended we add a Cetane booster fuel additive and I think that is good advice. During filtering the fuel started out dark, opaque brown and finished cleaning to have a transparent red color, very much like farm equipment diesel (likely due to lower cost… no taxes on fuel). I will get some fresh diesel to flush, prime and start the engine later. With the fuel cleaned, we turned our attention to the propeller, shaft, packing gland and cutlass bearing.
